Ben Wilson’s pedal-powered Artikcar to speed through Walk the Plank
Desh | Nov 25 2009

After teaching the tenets of DIY bike-making to the 14-year-olds, the UK-based designer Ben Wilson now offers his pedal-powered invention i.e. the Artikcar. Though it’s inspired by a child’s toy car, the would-be beneficiaries would be the eco-minded commuters, adults and minors as well. It’s all set to make a debut at the Walk the Plank’s illuminated Art Car Parades over the Manchester’s streets and Edinburgh this week.

Made from steel tubing, the eco-car steers by leaning and it illuminates while it’s on the move. The Art Council England handed a monetary aid to the designer to create the arty vehicle.

It’s attractive and kind of cool. I’m not a big fan of recumbents but that feature may contribute to its low-slung sportiness even though it would reduce its visibility in traffic. I really like the neon outline and I’m sure it will be a nice entry in the parade.
