Converted Organics, a recycling company is here to change the face of rotten, smelly garbage forever. The company with its plant in Woodbridge’s Keasbey section transforms stinking heap into fertilizer for your lush green lawns. Everything from old rotten fruits to vegetable to fish to meat is recycled to produce solid and liquid fertilizer, saving precious landfill space and the environment.

The plant that opened early last year receives nearly 50 tons of food waste every week and the company helps in keeping it away from the landfills. Housed in an old industrial building along the Raritan River, all of the processing takes place indoors. The food waste is dumped into a tank, after which the waste transported using conveyor belt to a ‘macerator,’ a machine that crunches and grinds the material. It ultimately ends up in aerobic digesters where the food decomposes. Ultimately, it is dried and screened down to tiny pellets that are the desired result. The output, which is the fertilizer, is filled into small bags that are sold at Home Depots and other stores in New Jersey and the Northeast.
