DuPont, a leading material and technology supplier to the photovoltaic industry, has come up with two new upgraded families of photovoltaic encapsulant sheets. DuPont PV5300 Series and DuPont PV5200 Series are an effort towards introducing more reliable and cost effective solar power.
According to William F.Weber, vice president and general manager of DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers, new encapsulant materials are effective in keeping cost-per-watt low. The main enhancing feature is its long-term protection for the most sensitive part of photovoltaic modules i.e. the solar cells.

Advancements:

DuPont PV5300, in comparison to earlier versions of encapsulant sheets is five times tougher and 100 times stiffer. Their inbuilt properties make it feasible to create new module designs such as building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) tiles that can be installed on building roofs.

DuPont PV5200, based on polyvinyl butyral polymer technology, is designed to meet the needs of thin-film solar power generation. The new PVB sheets offer higher physical and processing performance levels. With extra features designed in, they enable faster, more efficient module production and longer service life. It consists of clear, pliable material with high visible light transmission. Based on glass-glass thin -film module construction, it guarantees excellent glass adhesion and proven safety glass performance.

According to DuPont, encapsulants have a great future with growth of 25 percent per year over the next 5 years, with 20 percent of the market expected to shift to new encapsulants. DuPont’s novel series connects science and technology, thus, supporting the dramatic growth in the photovoltaic industry.
