Emmanuel Church in Bungay is undergoing eco-friendly transformation adding to the green initiative taken globally to save the planet. Under this carbon reduction project, the building is already equipped with energy-efficient convector heaters. Low energy light bulbs, a digital display unit and solar panels will be installed very soon. This £100,000 green renewal plan will make the church the first in the area to be using solar power.
The solar panels will be outfitted on the roofs of the two church halls residing at the back of the church in Rose Lane. The 220 photovoltaic panels replacing some of the slates on the roofs will power the church. The panels that will be bought by paying nearly £80,000 are expected to produce 11.44kw, an average of 10,000 units of electricity each year. As of now 50 percent of the money required to install the solar panels has been raised through a grant from the Low Carbon Building Programme, nut now church members are asked for interest-free loans.
The project also has provision for a digital display unit that will be installed in one of the halls to provide information regarding the amount of power generated, power consumed and power saved. The revolutionary Christians have already incorporated more energy-efficient convector heaters in August, which cost some £22,000. Low energy light bulbs will keep the power consumption low and help in saving the environment. The windows are fitted with secondary glass to preserve the heat inside. The town council, the Rotary Club and Sustainable Bungay have applauded the members for their green efforts.
