One trip from London to New York blows one persons yearly carbon budget, if we talk about regular luxury aircraft travel. London-based industrial designer Thomas Tzortzi, however, plans to lend a distinct tinge of green to deluxe air travel with his concept luxury airship, which he calls Eunoia. The gondola will initially take eight people on an eco-flight. Later, as technology evolves, the airship will accommodate around 60 people. Instead of competing with modern airplanes, the Airship will fly slowly over different countries until it reaches its destination.

The Airship is powered by solar panels spread across the top of the ship. With the helium’s lift and the suns energy, Eunoia will jettison no harm to the environment. The ship will be made from manufacture-use-disposal, with minimal effect in all regions. The ship has no conventional entertainment products; instead, it relies on the surrounding environment. It uses different viewing mediums such as a viewing capsule (in the gondola), a sun-deck (spread across the top of the ship) and a viewing room (located in the nose of the structure). This involved the idea of a “morning walk” starting from within the gondola moving into the rigid frame, across the top sun-deck and back into the front viewing capsule.

It also looks at the effects of tourism and the loss of culture because of Western tourism. The Airship needs no airport, but uses a mooring mast. This allows an opportunity for investment from local people, built by local engineers and constructed with local materials, allowing the direction of the country to be steered by the people. The airship also seeks to balance the scales of Art and Science. Function and form blend with the design of the airship neatly. Impressive, to say the least! What do you say?
