A competition to encourage green design and lifestyle was conducted by designboom in partnership with Incheon metropolitan city, Korea recently. Dubbed as the Green Life competition, the contest saw nearly 3709 participants from 96 countries. Among the 200 shortlisted projects, three were declared as the winners of the Netizens’ choice award. The “Boo bag” won the first position, the second prize went to “Shelf,” while “Endless warm” took the third position.
Designed by Sung-Un Chang, the Boo bag is a reusable grocery bag made using highly sustainable bamboo fabric. It come folded in a beautiful bamboo casing, which can be used as a handle while shopping. The bamboo handle provides comfort as well as style to the user. Getting some 1222 votes, the Boo bag slammed the first prize.
Not too far behind was Leon Zhu design, which won the second position with 1171 votes. Called the Shelf, Zhu’s creation protects your cars from long exposure to sunshine. Providing shield is not the only function it has, the Shelf is also capable of converting solar energy to electricity to power the air conditioner.
When the car is parked in the sun, Shelf unfolds becoming a sunshine cover, while during times when the vehicle is on the go it folds to work like a rear wing to improve the stability of the car. A thin film of solar cells is stored inside a board, when sun shines the energy produces by the solar cells is collected by the board, which can be used for air-conditioner, tail light and other electronic equipment.
Last but certainly not least, is Yiran Qian. This talented designer hailing from Germany designed a hat and glove equipped with solar panel. Named Endless warm, his creation bagged the third spot with 1140 votes. He created a hat and glove that has solar panels, which generate heat, keeping you warm during winters.
