Gemalto introduces the world’s first bio-sourced degradable smart banking cards and SIM cards that are made of paper-based materials. The card body can be incinerated without toxic emissions and if not put to flames, it decomposes so very easily. Since it’s packaged in recycled paper and makes use of vegetable inks, the cards are the most eco-friendly cards of late.
Both of these products comply with industry standards. Gemalto has been utilizing non-chlorine polymers since the 1990s, and now this advance into agro-based cards is a commendable step for sure. The company hopes to launch these cards in Q1-2010 positively.
