Green Zones promote urban biking

Automobile traffic depicts the inimitable dangers faced by cyclists and pedestrians. To prevent accidents between motorists and cyclists, green zones have been introduced in Portland, Oregon. These green zones, better known as “bike boxes,” are a unique way to promote cycling and reduce the negative consequences of dependence on oil and other forms of non-renewable energy.

Green stripe provides safety to cyclists:

Such green zones are solely dedicated to bike riders and are what every cyclist dreams of. These painted green zones assist bicyclists to move in front of the vehicles at crossroads safely. As for the cars, they have to stop a little earlier than they normally do. When the traffic light changes to red, bicyclists are clearly visible to motorists, since they are in front of them. On getting the go signal, the green stripe reminds both the cyclists and the motorists to be more cautious.
