Hong Kong Golf Course has the world's largest fleet of solar carts

The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course in Hong Kong touts the world’s first and biggest fleet of solar-cell powered golf carts. Made available by the Denmark-based engineering company called SolarDrive, the 205-car fleet would save up to 50-70 percent on power consumption with an overall saving worth HK$400,000 (US$51,610) a year.

The SolarDrive can out-perform battery-powered carts owing to a solar panel studded with long life mono- or poly-crystalline solar cells protected behind tempered solar glass providing excellent light and energy transmission. These ably capture the daylight and convert it into energy. Even on cloudy days, it mechanically produces sufficient energy while it’s being driven.

The $45 million SolarDrive project is part of a citywide environment project. It aims to trim down carbon emissions by up to 30 tons per year.
