House made from straw parades Pittsburgh State students' concern for G-living
Desh | Oct 26 2009

Three months back, we tried to implore if hemp and straw could be the part of modern architecture. No, there’s nothing impractical in thinking into this perspective as students at Pittsburgh State University are actually doing good in building an eco-house in front of the Kansas Technology Center from straw, recycled tires, tamped earth and straw bales. When completed, it will be a 800 square feet home.

Assistant Professor Denise Bertoncino and Jim Otter, the chairman of the construction department are handing ample guidance and support to the students. For directions, they’ve “Big John” Lipscomb with a reputation for building 60 straw-bale houses across the U.S. Lipscomb says that straw homes are evolving as a concept and you could see some of them in the Sand Hills in Nebraska built sometimes in 1970.
