Lightning Pack backpack cares for your back and power-hungry gadgets
Aditi Justa | Oct 12 2009

Have you ever thought how much energy we generate while hiking or going down a hill with backpacks on? It is just enough to recharge a phone or power a headlamp. So to harness it, Lawrence C. Rome at the University of Pennsylvania proposes his Lightning Pack that notices the natural movement of the backpacks and converts it into electricity.

Keeping the amount of electricity generated directly proportional to the pace a wearer walks at, the contrivance ably stores it in a Li-ion battery for future use. Apart from keeping you powered up, it is also capable of relieving you from back strain. So, the next time you go hiking make sure you have your Lightning Pack swinging right behind.
