NEC’s concept piezoelectric remote control runs without batteries
Desh | Nov 19 2009

NEC Electronics
and Soundpower Corp.’s concept piezoelectric TV remote control will definitely be the one stop solution to your fears concerning the battery failure, when it hits the production lines. Since the touch-sensitive device uses the vibrations of your fingers to keep it always charged, you could see it effecting the removal of batteries soon. The perfectly handy prototype with just 15 cm width, 7 cm length and 3.5 cm thickness is on display at the Embedded Technology 2009 exhibition running November 18 through 20 at the PACIFICO Yokohama convention complex.

In allowing remotes to get rid of weighty batteries, the technology makes sure that the level of electronic trash in landfills goes down. Kohei Hayamizu, the CEO of SoundPower, is confident about the future use of this technology in devices such as pedometers and car keys.
