OMA designs sustainable City Hall for Rotterdam's Stadskantoor Office
Desh | Oct 22 2009

Among the various entries received for designing Rotterdam’s Stadskantoor Office, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) emerged as winner owing to a neat design blending innovation with sustainability. The building design ensures maximum energy efficiency with adaptability to future needs.

Led by the likes of Reiner de Graaf and Rem Koolhas, and assisted by Werner Sobek and ABT, the OMA made sure that building should have sufficient space to accommodate municipal utilities, offices and residential units. The modular building doesn’t even out, rather it appears as a flight of stairs stacked irregularly. You would see green terraces and gardens, hi-tech glass facades to ensure perfect insulation and a heat mechanism that stores warm air in summers and releases it in winters.
