A flock of pigeons will now monitor air pollution. They will be fitted with mobile phone backpacks that will be used to monitor air pollution, according to New Scientist magazine. And this will happen in August with the release of 20 pigeons into the skies over San Jose, California.
This mobile phone, each bird will carry, is a GPS satellite tracking receiver equipped with air pollution sensors. The sensors will beam back text messages on air quality in real time to a special pigeon “blog”, a journal accessible on the Internet.
