Well, it’s not as straight to grasp as it seems to be. In fact, what the Portable Light iTEACH Blanket proposes to bring about follows a via-path. The blanket will help native South Africans to charge their cellphones that will later spread the green word via text messages, providing health info on HIV and Tuberculosis.
It will not only empower the deprived lot to have access to mobiles, but also should boost the local economy, since the local manufacturing methods will find an application in their (iTEACH Blanket) production. The project seeks active involvement of women to “integrate flexible solar kits into a locally produced African cloth fastened to an emergency blanket.”
In actual practice, the patient doesn’t need to devote extra time to recharge the blanket, as it recharges itself in three hours to create 6 watt-hours of energy. When it’s dark, the blanket charges a cellphone and also provides a bright white light for a full 10 hours.
