Desh | Nov 18 2009

The Rebycycle Program is a joint course run by Gosford TAFE, Gosford City Council and UnitingCare Burnside. Under the 10-week course, the youngsters get detailed instructions on how to ensure bike maintenance and safety. The course targets those teenagers who are “at risk of leaving school or having recently left school to stay connected with education.” As the trainees will learn the tenets of refurbishing bikes to a new improved state of being, it will sure develop their occupational skills too.

Just recently, trainees revamped three bikes and morphed them into almost new entities. These bikes will now be donated to the housing NSW Building Stronger Communities initiative. Moreover, the trainees are being given their certificate for completing their courses successfully.

The charity refurbishes and repairs bicycles and sends them out to impoverished communities in Africa to allow people greater access to work and education in their areas. The bikes are also used by AIDS/health workers to get out to remote villages.
