Solar powered monorail in Bologna to link airport and train station to city center
Desh | Nov 3 2009

Iosa Ghini Associati
has proposed its novel solar powered monorail system dubbed as the Energy Belt for the city of Bologna, Italy. Apart from being a visual treat, the 5084-meter-long track will connect the city center with the airport and the train station. While the travelers will enjoy a green ride above the city, they could notice walkways and solar systems along the track.

Treading along the 7 meters up to 25 meters high meandering flyover, one could actually see the sloping roofs outfitted with photovoltaic panels on the southwest side. There is another set of glazed panels to the north but these are ornamental and lend transparency to the system. Supposed to support vertical gardens all along the walls enclosing the stations, the metal sheets having vegetation will help air filtration, natural insulation and shading.
