SunEdison to build the world’s largest Solar PV farm in Italy
Aditi Justa | Mar 15 2010

After receiving final approval from the Italian government, SunEdison, a division of MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc., is getting geared up to build the largest photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the world. The new 72MW photovoltaic solar power farm will be installed in the northern Italian province of Veneto near the town of Rovigo. It is anticipated that the plant will become operational with the completion of the construction work by the end of this year.

The project that will be developed in collaboration with financing partners Banco Santander is expected to use ground-mounted solar panels that can turn to track the sun’s movement. The US solar energy company claims that the farm will produce enough energy to power 17,150 homes. The clean energy will prevent the emission of nearly 41,000 tons of CO2, which is equivalent of removing 8,000 cars from the road.
