Town Town Office Tower bags sustainability prize at the MIPIM awards
Aditi Justa | Feb 9 2010

The Town Town Office Tower, Vienna, Austria was declared the Sustainability Winner for MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards 2010. All thanks to the designer COOP HIMMELB(L)AU Wolf D. Prix / W. Dreibholz & Partner ZT GmbH, who created an energy-active system that introduces both proven and innovative low energy consumption systems, environmental control systems and newly developed energy harvesting systems.

The Erdberg Office Tower includes vertically tilted glass panels to provide natural lighting and views, while specialized cladding is responsible for wind absorption. The structure has an energy-active skin that is created by photovoltaic lamination, using thin-film-technology, on the perforated sheet metal panels. The energy requirement of the building is met with the help of a wind turbine on the roof and facade’s photovoltaic thin-film-system. The excess energy is sold back to the utility company.
