The University of Central Florida smartened up its Garage H lights by replacing them with the new, energy efficient T5 fluorescent lights. Working for more than four weeks, the staff workers installed no less than 500 light fixtures on the lower three levels of the garage. The UCF’s Sustainability and Energy Management will now go on to save $42,000 a year.
Apart from extending monetary benefits, the new lights use only 14,436-kilowatt hours of energy per month. David Norvell, director of UCF’s Sustainability and Energy Management, finds these lights to be more vibrant than the old light fixtures that contained high-pressure sodium. As far as installation expenses are concerned, it will not take more than 1.2 years in recuperation.
