The Merton Council’s maintenance contractor FM Conway Ltd., kicked off a five-week project under which a road suffered from edge defects and fretting was repaired using 95% recycled material. The 765-yard section of the Cannizaro Road in Wimbledon, London that was in a dilapidated state because of lack of edge support and heavy use got a new surface made up of recycled materials from roads and railway ballast.

The road has been given new life by adding granite kerbs and new surface with a 95% recycled binder. Yeoman Asphalt, a division of Aggregate Industries is behind this new eco-friendly material. The new evolution of the road will be under strict observation in order to check its performance in comparison with traditional material. The Cannizaro Road with its green renewal has become the most eco-friendly road in the UK.
