Indonesia continues to bear the brunt of nature fury, with an impending volcano eruption sending threatening waves around the country.

Mount Karangetang, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes is showing signs of a virtual disaster as it starts spitting ash, lava and gases, risking thousands staying nearby.

Indonesia is the home of volcanoes, thanks to its location in a very sensitive seismic zone, which calls for disaster every now and then. The country has witnessed a fragile environment, with volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, thunderstorms, forest fires hitting the country very very hard.

Earthquakes and volcanoes are a recurrent in Indonesia because it sits atop the most sensitive seismic zone, the circum-Pacific belt or the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is the home of severe diastrophic catastrophes. As the tectonic plates inside the earth move, Indonesia being sandwiched between the Indian-Austral plate, the Eurasian plate, the Burmese plate, the Pacific plate, each moving in contrast to each other, the total recipe calls for severe jolt.

With Mount Karangetang, in Siau island off Sulawesi already emitting lava (magma), the recipe is ready for another disaster. And as the earth gets ready to spit poisonous gases and lava into the atmosphere, Indonesia starts to prepare for the impending catastrophe.

With the fear of another catastrophe looming large over the island nation, evacuation process is going on, thousands still remain at risk, amidst many reluctant to abandon their homes.
