Zambike, crafted in bamboo, offers a green ride
Desh | Jul 2 2009

Zambian green trendsetter Benjamin Banda now earns a sustainable living out of his creative thinking. He set up a self-sustaining business of constructing bikes from bamboo. The Zambike doesn’t include any high-tech mechanics, still what it offers is hand-made, pollution-free transportation. However, the price tag reading $900 is sure to make it a bit unaffordable to many.

The entire construction process doesn’t require complicated machinery. It demands some skillful carpentry, as it’s almost fully hand-made. The bamboo stems are used in making frames, which don’t surrender to the hardest territories. They are heat-treated for extra robustness. Though some may argue that it might usher in an era of excessive flattening of the bamboo farms, the associated benefits still total much more. After all, anything crafted in eco-friendly material is received well by the masses. Hence, the bike offering a green ride is already a success.
